Police recover $100,000 in stolen drones
Police recovered $100,000 worth of stolen drones and drone accessories and arrested Chance Dunne, 28, after break-ins at two commercial properties on 88 Avenue in Fort Saskatchewan.
On Jan. 2, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were responding to the break-ins and given up-to-date information about the suspect and vehicle descriptions. An officer with Strathcona County RCMP located both vehicles but the driver fled from the traffic stop.
Officers were able to identify the vehicles used and linked one of them to an address in Edmonton. About 7:30 a.m., RCMP and the Edmonton Police Tactical Unit executed a search warrant at a home on Kiniski Crescent in Edmonton. As a result of the search, officers recovered in excess of $100,000 in stolen drones, and drone accessories.
Dunne was charged with two counts each of break and enter to commit theft and possession of stolen property over $5,000. He was also charged with disguise with intent and possession of break-in tools.
Dunne was taken before a justice of the peace and released with his next court date set for Jan. 4 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan.
Police say the investigation into the other suspects involved continues.
