A group of males surrounded, robbed and stabbed a 15-year-old teen in Winnipeg shopping mall on Tuesday.
Winnipeg Police responded at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 the mall in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. At the time, officers from the West District were proactively patrolling in the area as part of a retail theft and violent crime initiative and were quickly alerted to the incident and responded.
Inside the mall police found the injured teen bleeding and receiving first aid from a security guard. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.
Additional officers in the surrounding area observed an individual believed to be a suspect running nearby. A foot chase ensued, and an 18-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested and charged with robbery.
The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
