Leonard Cochrane was found guilty Friday of two counts of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of two Calgary men Barry Buchart and Trevor Deakins almost three decades ago on July 11, 1994.
Police used investigative genetic genealogy to match the blood that was found at the scene to Cochrane.
Court heard that Cochrane met Buchart at a nearby convenience store and was asked if he wanted to purchase some drugs, as per the Calgary Sun. After agreeing to buy an ounce of marijuana and going home to pick up cash, Cochrane said he was in the basement suite in the early morning hours of July 11, 1994, when two intruders wearing balaclavas burst in.
The judge rejected Cochrane’s claims.
