MASKWACIS, Alta., — Maskwacis RCMP conducted a two-day commercial vehicle enforcement operation on June 17 and 18, targeting high-traffic corridors along Highway 2 and Highway 611 East and West.
The initiative was carried out in coordination with the Alberta Traffic calendar and saw officers set up at busy locations throughout both days to promote road safety and ensure compliance among commercial drivers.
Over the course of the operation, members checked a total of 34 commercial vehicles, including farm vehicles, and also inspected eight school buses. The enforcement effort resulted in one warrant being executed and 17 warnings issued to drivers for various infractions.
Among the commercial vehicles inspected, six required immediate attention due to safety concerns. Officers also discovered 10 mechanical defects and recorded seven logbook violations, highlighting ongoing issues with vehicle maintenance and hours-of-service compliance in the commercial sector.

Maskwacis RCMP said that these enforcement efforts will continue throughout the summer, with officers maintaining a visible presence in the community and conducting additional random vehicle checks. The goal is to deter unsafe driving practices and reduce the risk of crashes on local highways.
Police also took the opportunity to thank the public for their cooperation and urged residents to continue reporting dangerous drivers in real time. They said that immediate reports allow officers to respond while unsafe behaviour is still occurring, which has a direct and meaningful impact on the safety of all motorists travelling through the area.
