On Sept. 7, 2025, at 9 p.m., Strathmore RCMP received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a black Dodge Ram in the 900 block of Pine Road in Strathmore. RCMP and EMS attended and located the victim who had serious injuries. Dante Waterchief (24), a resident of Siksika, was taken to a Calgary hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit was contacted and they have taken carriage of the investigation. As a result of the investigation, Kyera Oldwoman (22), a resident of Skisika Nation, has been charged with second degree murder.
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Oldwoman was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Siksika on Sept. 11, 2025.
