A 19-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple serious charges, including bestiality, after a disturbing investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit that led to the rescue of three cats from his home.
The investigation began in June 2025 after police were contacted by the Winnipeg Humane Society’s Animal Protection Services. The agency reported that the man had sought medical attention at a hospital for injuries that were allegedly inflicted by an animal in his care.
According to a police news release, the Humane Society’s investigation uncovered evidence that the man’s injuries were sustained while he was committing sexual acts on the animals living in his residence.
On June 13, members of the Sex Crimes Unit, assisted by General Patrol officers and Animal Protection Officers, executed a operation at the suspect’s home. They safely removed three felines, two adult cats and one kitten, from the property.
The animals were immediately taken to a veterinary clinic for comprehensive medical examinations before being transported to the Winnipeg Humane Society for ongoing care and shelter.
After a thorough investigation, officers arrested the 19-year-old suspect at his residence on Aug. 28. He has been charged bestiality, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, inflicting upon an animal acute suffering, serious injury or harm, or extreme anxiety, or distress that significantly impairs its health or wellbeing
The accused was processed and later released on an Undertaking, as mandated by the courts.
The Winnipeg Police Service and the Winnipeg Humane Society remind the public that animal cruelty is a serious criminal offence. Anyone with concerns about the welfare of an animal is urged to contact the Provincial Animal Care Line at 204-945-8000.
