Two members of the Wolfpack gang who sold fentanyl in Vancouver’s downtown Eastside were sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to their involvement in a sophisticated drug trafficking operation that distributed about $50,000 worth of fentanyl daily.
Hemen Saed was sentenced to nine years and his cousin Diego Saed, now 26, was given six and half years in prison. He was given 575 days credit for time he served in custody in California while awaiting extradition.
“There is no doubt the evidence before me demonstrates both Mr. Hemen Saed and Mr. Diego Saed pursued the business model of the drug trafficking organization with enthusiasm, high energy, recklessness, and with a single-minded goal of profit,” said B. C. Supreme Court Justice David Crossin said his March 19 written decision.
Howjeen Saed, the leader of the Wolfpack gang, who is Hemen Saed’s brother, was sentenced in November to 10 years in prison. Another member, Roger Alfredo Bardales Medina, was given five years in prison.
The Wolfpack gang has long controlled the drug trade in the Downtown Eastside. Gang member Anees Mohammed, who previously ran the gang, was gunned down in Richmond in January 2021 and his murder remains unsolved.
In November 2022, B.C.’s anti-gang Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit said they arrested six gang members after a lengthy investigation that began in July 2020 and resulted in the execution of search warrants in October 2020 and May 2021.
At that time, they seized 10 kilograms of fentanyl, three kgs of cocaine, six kgs of methamphetamine, seven prohibited firearms, more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, three vehicles, and $160,000 in cash.
Police had said that it was a wholesale operation with the gang having access to pure, high-volume supply chain that diluted the drugs to distribute.
