Two skiers have died from separate avalanches near Lake Louise, and Kananaskis on March 14, say RCMP.
The first avalanche occurred at approximately 3 p.m. MT near Pipestone Bowl just outside of the Lake Louise Ski Resort emergency personnel responded, including Lake Louise Fire Department, Search and Rescue, local Ski Patrol, employees of the resort, Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services, Parks Canada and STARS.
Two people were skiing in the area when a skier triggered the avalanche. One skier was carried about 50 metres by the avalanche and buried in about 150-200 cm of snow. The second skier, who was using a transceiver, pulled the first skier out and administered aid. Parks Canada brought the two skiers to EMS. The skier hasn’t been identified as next of kin notification had not been done.

About an hour later, around 4 p.m., RCMP got a report of an avalanche in the back-country near Mount Black Prince. Cochrane and Stoney Nakota RCMP responded to assist Kananaskis Mountain Rescue and Kananaskis Emergency Services, after a report of an avalanche in a back-country area off of Highway 742 near Mount Black Prince, Alta.
RCMP say that four people were out skiing when an avalanche occurred and carried a 34-year-year-old woman from Calgary a distance before she was buried in the snow.
An SOS beacon was sent out, notifying emergency responders, and despite efforts of the other three skiers to provide medical attention, the female was declared deceased by first responders.
