York Regional Police has arrested a Caledon man who is on federal parole for drug trafficking offences following a traffic stop in the City of Richmond Hill.
Tharshun Sivasubramaniam, 34, of the Town of Caledon, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine), possession of a controlled substance, obstruct a peace officer and possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution.
Sivasubramaniam is currently in custody as he was held for a bail hearing and his statutory release was revoked.
On Dec. 1, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an officer on patrol in the area of Leslie Street and Minthorn Avenue conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle. During the traffic stop, officers determined that the driver had provided a fake name, he was failing to comply with his federal parole and had cannabis readily available. As a result of the arrest, the vehicle was searched.
Police located more than two hundred grams of suspected cocaine packaged for sale, a quantity of pills suspected to be fentanyl, more than 800 grams of illicit cannabis, approximately $5,000 in Canadian currency, three cellular phones and several bottles of alcohol.
The street value of the drugs is estimated to be more than $30,000.
