The RCMP provided an update Monday afternoon on the fatal shooting that occurred Friday evening in Urbainville, confirming the death of a 35-year-old man and serious injuries to a 50-year-old woman.
At a press conference held on Aug. 11, police revealed new details about the incident, which took place around 8 p.m. on Aug. 8 on Route 125 (Hackmatack Road), a rural dirt road in Urbainville. Officers responding to reports of gunfire discovered a vehicle that had left the roadway, rolled, and struck a utility pole.
The male driver, who sustained gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene. His cause of death remains under investigation by the coroner’s office. A female passenger, aged 50, was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The families of both individuals have requested privacy as they grieve.
Police believe another vehicle was present at the scene and are treating this as an isolated incident. Investigators are also examining a possible connection to a burned vehicle found in Saint Lawrence, near Miminegash, reported to RCMP around 8:15 a.m. on August 9.
Police acknowledged the rarity of such violent incidents in the province and assured the public that significant resources are dedicated to the case.
