Jasper RCMP are advising that Highway 16 approximately 12 kilometers west of the town of Japer is currently closed in both directions due to a rock slide. RCMP is supporting Parks Canada led efforts in clearing the highway and redirecting a significant amount of vehicle traffic including semi trucks currently affected. There are no reports of vehicles struck or people injured by the slide.
The delay is expected to be significant with no clear time frame on when the highway will be reopened. The public is encouraged to find alternate routes of travel while the highway is cleared and assessments take place to ensure public safety.
