Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating after a man was killed in a hit-and-run at a Petro-Canada station on 78 Street early Thursday morning.
At approximately 4:23 a.m. on April 23, 2026, Peace River RCMP were called to the gas pumps, where a man was found deceased. Surveillance footage revealed that about two hours earlier, a suspect had stolen a vehicle, entered the driver’s seat, and deliberately ran over the victim before fleeing.
The stolen vehicle — a red 2005 Dodge Caravan taxi with Alberta licence plate L98636, white business lettering on the door, and a white taxi lamp on the roof — has since been recovered. Investigators are now seeking public assistance to identify the suspect and trace the vehicle’s movements between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 23.
The suspect was described as wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, a black t-shirt with a white decal, black boots, and mismatched gloves — one grey and one black.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation with support from Peace River RCMP and the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
