On Nov. 23, 42-year-old Marc-André Boudreau was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm with the serial number removed, possession of a firearm while under a prohibition order, and intentionally discharging a firearm at a place without regard to whether there was a person present.
Boudreau was arrested following a police operation that spanned over more than 10 hours in Madran, N.B.
On Aug. 5, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Chaleur Region RCMP executed an arrest warrant on behalf of the Gatineau police service at a home in Madran. Members of the New Brunswick RCMP Emergency Response Team, and members of BNPP Regional Police also assisted.
When police arrived on scene, a firearm was discharged several times inside the home. A perimeter was set up, and some nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Additional RCMP specialized policing services also attended the scene, including additional members of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, the RCMP Police Dog Services, the RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team, the RCMP Explosives Disposal Units (EDU), the RCMP Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (drone), and the Northeast RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.
After approximately 10.5 hours, at around 4 p.m., a 41-year-old man surrendered to police without incident, and was taken into custody. Police seized a firearm and ammunition during the arrest. No one was injured during the police operation. The incident did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready message.
On Aug. 6, Boudreau was transferred into the custody of the Gatineau police service.
Also, on Aug. 6, members of the New Brunswick RCMP executed a search warrant at the property in Madran. They seized several loaded firearms, including some that are prohibited, as well as ammunition and other prohibited weapons.
