Edmonton Police ask public to help identify suspect
Edmonton Police are searching for a suspect in two random stabbings downtown Edmonton minutes apart against a man walking on a street and another man at a bus centre.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., on Dec. 31, a 63-year-old man was stabbed in a random attack while walking near 111 Avenue and 96 Street in Edmonton on New Year’s Eve. When officers arrived, they found the senior with significant injuries. Paramedics treated and took him to hospital in critical condition.
Twenty minutes later, a 45-year-old man was standing at the Kingsway Transit Centre with his adult son, when he was approached by a male and stabbed. The male fled on foot, southbound toward the downtown core. The man was treated and taken to hospital by EMS in critical condition.
Edmonton Police Service (EPS) investigators are seeking the public’s help to identify the male suspect.
The suspect male is believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age, and was wearing a black hoodie, black jacket, blue jeans and carrying a black and green backpack at the time of the Kingsway Transit Centre assault.

Investigators believe the same male suspect seen in the surveillance images is responsible for both random, violent attacks.
