DRAYTON, Alta. – Drayton Valley RCMP have seized drugs and charged a Thunder Bay man following a traffic stop in the community.
On Sept. 23, Drayton Valley RCMP initiated a traffic stop. Upon interacting with the driver, officers noted drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and arrested the five occupants. One of the passengers, who originally provided a false name, was identified and found to be on a Canada-wide warrant for violating his parole. The other four occupants were later released.
A search of the vehicle and occupants incidental to arrest resulted in the seizure of 187.9 grams of cocaine, 28.1 grams of methamphetamine, 2 grams of fentanyl, $1,395 in Canadian currency, a conducted energy device (stun gun), and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
As a result of the investigation, Jaymz Hancock, 33, a resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario, was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, obstruction of a police officer, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon, and failing to comply with a weapon prohibition order.
Hancock was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on Oct. 6.
