NIPAWIN, Sask. — A Nipawin man is facing multiple charges after RCMP seized a loaded handgun, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other illicit substances during a traffic stop in the community.
On Sept. 26, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP were patrolling in the community when they performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for a driver’s license, registration, and sobriety check. During the stop, officers noticed open alcohol in the vehicle in plain view. Investigation determined the driver was impaired, and he was arrested.
During a search of the driver, officers located and seized a loaded handgun. While searching the vehicle, officers seized 21 grams of cocaine, four grams of methamphetamine, 44 grams of hydromorphone, 84 milligrams of fentanyl patches, ammunition, weapons, cash, drug trafficking paraphernalia, identification belonging to other individuals, and a wallet previously reported stolen to Nipawin RCMP.
As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Jered Waddington of Nipawin has been charged with one count of operation while impaired (alcohol) of a motor vehicle, one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence or registration, one count of careless use of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition in a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Waddington appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on Oct. 1.
Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP continue to investigate.
