Cayla Nicole Bleeker (Snodgrass Funeral Homes)
High River, Alta.- On July 28, 2026, at 9:24 p.m., High River RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence along 112 Street East in High River, Alta.
Officers responded to the residence and found a female victim with gunshot wounds. EMS transported the victim to the High River General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
High River RCMP immediately arrested a male and took him into custody. There was no further risk to public safety.
This was the second call for service at this residence that the High River RCMP responded to on the evening of July 28, 2026. The first call was received at 5:54 p.m., where the suspect called police, and made allegations involving the victim. RCMP conducted a thorough investigation, and determined the allegations were unfounded. The suspect called police a second time at 9:24 p.m., which resulted in responding officers finding the victim suffering from gunshot wounds; subsequently the suspect was arrested.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) attended and has taken over the investigation.
Police identified the victim as 36-year-old Cayla Bleeker, a resident of High River, Alta.
Bleeker’s obituary says, “Cayla grew up in the Foothills surrounding Okotoks where her love for horses and the country helped shape her into the happy, enigmatic and fiercely loyal human she embodied. She spent her life leaving bright hoof prints on the souls of those she met, whether for a short moment in time or the lifelong friends she held close. Cayla was someone no one forgot, and with a purpose in life to make others smile.”
As a result of the investigation, police have charged 36-year-old Jarrett Stobbe, a resident of High River, with second-degree murder.
Stobbe was held for a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks, on July 31.
