STRATHMORE, Alta. — A 30-year-old man is in custody facing more than a dozen charges after allegedly firing a sawed-off shotgun outside a licensed establishment early Sunday morning.
Strathmore RCMP responded to a firearm complaint in the 300 block of Lakeside Boulevard at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 2, 2026. Officers learned that a male patron had been ejected from a premises after causing a disturbance inside. The same individual later returned with what witnesses described as a sawed-off shotgun and menaced patrons who were outside before discharging the weapon toward the ground and fleeing the scene.
Police conducted an extensive search of the area over several hours. The suspect was eventually located, and a firearm believed to have been used in the offence was found in a nearby park with assistance from an RCMP Police Service Dog.
The accused has been identified as Kieon Northpeigan, who has no fixed address. He was held for a judicial hearing and remanded into custody. Northpeigan faces a total of 14 charges, including seven firearms charges, four charges for failure to comply with release conditions, mischief, resisting arrest, and uttering T=threats.
The investigation is ongoing. Northpeigan remains in custody. His next appearance in the Alberta Court of Justice is scheduled for Aug. 7, 2026.
“It is fortunate nobody was injured in this encounter,” said Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz – Detachment Commander, Strathmore RCMP. “Incidents such as this are both rare and unwelcome in our community. I am thankful for our members quick response and assistance from the public to quickly identify the individual in this case.”
