COCHRANE — An investigation into suspected drug trafficking by the Cochrane Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) has resulted in a significant seizure of illicit drugs, cash and prohibited weapons. Two people have been charged.
In May 2026, Cochrane RCMP CRU initiated an investigation into drug trafficking activity occurring within the town of Cochrane. On July 30th, 2026, with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), investigators executed two search warrants simultaneously, one at a residence in Rockyledge View in the city of Calgary and another in the Heritage Hills neighbourhood of Cochrane.
During the warrant executions police located and seized the following items:
- Over a kilogram of suspected cocaine
- Approximately 340 grams of suspected fentanyl
- $22,000 in Canadian and foreign currency
- Two prohibited conductive energy weapons (baton tasers)
Mansour Askari-Sobi (37) and Chelsea Oshier (36), both of Cochrane, AB, have been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking along with additional offences under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The accused were taken before a judge and released on cash bail with stringent conditions. They are scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on August 11, 2026.
“This investigation demonstrates our continued commitment to disrupting the trafficking of dangerous drugs within our community,” says the Cochrane RCMP’s Acting Detachment Commander, Staff Sgt. Chad Fournier. “The quantities of drugs seized during this investigation had the potential to cause significant harm. I want to recognize the dedication of our Crime Reduction Unit and the RCMP Emergency Response Team for their assistance in safely executing these search warrants.”
