A quiet evening in a Wheatland County neighbourhood was shattered by gunfire on Tuesday, the culmination of what police describe as a heated dispute between neighbours.
The Drumheller RCMP were called to a rural property just after 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2025, following a complaint of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to police, the investigation revealed that the two victims had entered into a discussion with their neighbour, 36-year-old Brigham McBean. The conversation quickly escalated, turning heated, and resulted in a firearm being discharged.
Both men were taken to hospital by emergency services. Police have confirmed they are both expected to make a full recovery.
Following the incident, RCMP officers arrested McBean, a resident of Wheatland County, at the scene. He has since been charged with a series of serious firearm-related offences, including two counts of discharging a firearm with intent and two counts of aggravated assault. Additional charges include careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
McBean was taken before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 10, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller.
