The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the man shot and killed inside a taxicab in Langley last Friday night, confirming the slaying is connected to British Columbia’s ongoing gang conflict.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Taran Pandher of the Lower Mainland. IHIT’s specialized Integrated Gang Homicide Team (IGHT) has now assumed control of the investigation due to its gang nexus.
The incident occurred on September 5, 2025, at approximately 10:28 p.m. Langley RCMP frontline officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 200 Street and 53 Avenue.
“Officers arrived promptly, located the victim, and initiated lifesaving measures,” said IHIT in a written statement. “Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.” Police confirmed the shooting took place while Pandher was inside a taxi and that there were no other victims.
Investigators have since determined that Pandher was known to police and was believed to be connected to organized crime.
“This shooting has many of the specific indications of a gang-related homicide,” said Corporal Sukhi Dhesi, IHIT Media Relations Officer. “The nature of the BC Gang Conflict is complex and IGHT will continue to work to hold those responsible for the homicide of Mr. Pandher accountable.”
Police are also investigating a vehicle fire reported later that night in Surrey, which they believe is connected to the homicide. The fire was reported at 11:00 p.m. in the 13250 block of 64A Avenue.
In an appeal to the public, IGHT is asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from three specific locations and time frames to contact them:
- 20200 block of 53A Avenue, Langley between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on September 5.
- 13250 block of 64A Avenue, Surrey between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on September 5.
- 9900 block of 53 Avenue, Langley between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on September 5.
IHIT is working in close partnership with the Langley RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS).
