Suspect, identified as Tyrone Simard, died in vehicle crash with officer

HOLLOW WATER FIRST NATION — Multiple stabbings early Thursday morning has left one woman dead, seven others injured, and the suspect deceased following a police pursuit and fatal collision.
Supt. Rob Lasson, officer in charge of Manitoba RCMP Major Crimes said the 18-year-old woman who was killed was the suspect, Tyrone Simard’s, sister.
At approximately 3:44 a.m., a First Nation Safety Officer contacted RCMP to report an assault that had occurred roughly 30 minutes earlier in Hollow Water First Nation. The suspect had fled the scene, and emergency medical services were requested.
Just over two hours later, at 5:53 a.m., RCMP received a second call reporting a possible stabbing in the community. Officers from multiple detachments were immediately dispatched.
Upon arrival, police located several individuals suffering from stab wounds. A second scene was soon identified at another residence in the community, where additional victims were found. In total, eight people ranging in age from 18 to 60 sustained injuries. An 18-year-old female died from her wounds.
Tyrone Simard, 26, of Hollow Water First Nation, fled the community in a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later spotted near Black River First Nation, traveling southbound on Provincial Road 304.
At 6:53 a.m., Simard collided head-on with a police cruiser en route to the scene. Simard was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The officer involved was transported to hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries.

Provincial Road 304 remains closed in both directions south of Black River First Nation as investigators continue to examine the scene. Powerview RCMP, RCMP Major Crime Services, Forensic Identification Services, and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist are leading the investigation.
