A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Krystian Cogswell, 22, of Surrey, B.C. following a shooting in Fort Providence, N.W.T., last weekend that left one man dead and two other men with serious injuries.
The Northwest Territories Major Crime Unit have charged Cogswell with murder, attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Cogswell is considered armed and dangerous.
On March 15 at 12:46 am, the Fort Providence RCMP received a series of calls indicating that three people had been shot in a residence in the community of Fort Providence. Officers attended the scene and found a 31-year-old male deceased in the residence. Another injured male was found on scene and was subsequently transported to the health center. The third male had already been taken to the health center prior to police arrival and was subsequently air lifted to Yellowknife to receive emergency treatment.
A Canada wide warrant for Cogswell’s arrest has been issued and investigators are actively seeking to locate him. The investigation to date shows that Cogswell fled Fort Providence after the shooting and has likely made his way to points south of the Territory.
Cogswell is also wanted on a separate warrant from the Inuvik RCMP Detachment in connection with drug trafficking offences from July of 2024. At the time of this incident Cogswell was subject to bail conditions that required him to reside in British Columbia and not to be present in the Northwest Territories.
Anyone who has information about Cogswell’s whereabouts is asked to contact their local police station or RCMP Detachment or submit a tip through Crime Stoppers. In the event of an emergency call, 911.
