Two residents from the County of Vermilion River were arrested after Vermilion RCMP responded to a rural residence on Dec. 12 where stolen property had been reported to be located.
Vermilion RCMP, along with the assistance of Vermilion RCMP Traffic Services and Kitscoty RCMP attended the property and recovered two stolen vehicles along with controlled substances, a rifle and ammunition.
Nicholas Desrochers, 31, and Keisha Sharp, 27, were charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Derochers was additionally charged with four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a court order, possession of a firearm knowing he was not the holder of a licence, unsafe storage of a firearm, four counts of failing to comply with a release, and possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.
Sharp was additionally charged with failing to comply with probation order and possession of illegal (non-taxed) cigarettes.
Desrochers was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody with the next court date set for Jan. 1, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.

“This is an excellent example of RCMP members working with community members to achieve a common goal. The goal of course is holding our offenders accountable for their actions and increase public safety,” said Sgt Corey Buckingham of Vermilion RCMP. “Most of the work we do as police officers is very dynamic in nature, this is a great example of our members ability to think on their feet and investigate in a safe manner resulting in a positive outcome.”
