Kitscoty RCMP arrested two people after observing a stolen vehicle.
Dominic Berland, 29, and Sandra Marlene Fryingpan, 55, both of Frog Lake are charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Fryingpan was additionally charged with possession of a weapon contrary to a court order. Berland was additionally charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, four counts of failing to comply with court orders, and driving while prohibited.
On Dec. 18, while Kitscoty RCMP were conducting pro-active patrols in Dewberry they saw the stolen vehicle parked outside a local establishment. CCTV was reviewed, which showed a man and woman getting out of the stolen vehicle and going into the establishment. Police investigated, which resulted in the arrested of two people.
During a search of the vehicle, police seized 78 grams of methamphetamine and an improvised firearm.
Fryingpan was taken before a justice of the peace and released with her next court date set for Jan. 8, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster.
Berland was taken before a justice of peace and remanded in custody with the next court date set for Jan. 15, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster.
“The keen eye of a trained investigator led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the removal of illicit drugs from the communities we serve,” said Cpl. Weisbrod of the Kitscoty RCMP. “The Kitscoty Detachment is committed to pro-active policing and this is an example of its results.”
