The teen was in a Snapchat group with a name that translates to ‘Islamic State Soldiers of Allah’
A 16-year-old Calgary youth was arrested for terrorism-related offences. On Dec. 13, the RCMP Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in Alberta, with support from the Calgary Police Service, arrested the youth.
His arrest follows that of a 20-year-old individual and two youths, all from Calgary, who were previously arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.
The youth was released on a Recognizance with a number of conditions pending the outcome of a Terrorism Peace Bond application. He is scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Jan. 5, 2024.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents any further release of information regarding this individual.
The teen was in a Snapchat group with a name that translates to “Islamic State Soldiers of Allah.”
The teen’s social media activity on TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat, has been seized as evidence. There is a video of him attending an LGBTQ protest and saying “kill all (gay people)” and another video that depicted blowing up a synagogue.
20-year-old Zakarya Hussein has already pleaded guilty in December to a terrorism charge. He admitted he shared recruitment videos for the Islamic State group on TikTok, wrote instructions on how to make a bomb and posted on Snapchat that his mission would begin during Pride month.
He will be sentenced next year after a risk assessment report ordered by his lawyer, is completed.
