Update: Lac La Biche RCMP is cancelling the shelter in place. A thorough search of the area was completed and the suspect was not located. It is not believed he is in the area at this time.
That being said, please be diligent and aware and if Hamelin is seen, do not approach him and call 911.

Lac La Biche RCMP is advising residents of Heart Lake First Nation to shelter in place. RCMP is searching for a suspect who fled from police and is believed to be in possession of firearms. Residents of the area are asked to remain indoors, lock their residences and stay away from windows while officers respond.
The suspect is believed to be 39-year-old Peter Hamelin. Please see the attached photo of Hamelin. If you know the whereabouts of him, or see him, call 911 immediately.
There are a significant number of resources focused on apprehending this suspect and protecting the public. Please refrain from posting photos of responding officers on social media.
We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured, your Alberta RCMP is working tirelessly to locate the suspect. We ask that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or tips to the Lac La Biche RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
