A routine traffic stop in the Exchange District has led to the arrest of a 35-year-old Tennessee man wanted in the United States on multiple child sexual exploitation charges, police say.
On May 7, 2026, just after 3:30 p.m., Central District Foot Patrol officers were proactively policing in the Exchange District when they spotted a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado speeding. Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Higgins Avenue and McArthur Street.
The driver was identified, and a routine check revealed he had outstanding arrest warrants from the United States for aggravated statutory rape, soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor, and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
He was immediately taken into custody.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Greenbrier Police Department in Tennessee were notified of the arrest.
The 35-year-old male from Tennessee has been turned over to the CBSA, where he will remain in custody until he can be returned to the United States to face the outstanding charges.
No further details about the suspect or the original allegations have been released by police.
The investigation remains ongoing, with Canadian authorities continuing to coordinate with their U.S. counterparts.
