On July 9, 2024, Turtleford RCMP received a report that an adult male had tampered with an electronic device monitoring his court-ordered 24-hour curfew.
He was on court conditions from a May 11 aggravated assault in North Battleford.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) began working to locate him.
Investigation determined the male was in a residence on Thunderchild First Nation. On July 11, officers from CRT and Turtleford detachment obtained a warrant and approached the home. The occupants refused to exit it. With help from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, seven people were arrested at the home. Four were released without charges.
One of the individuals arrested was the male, , 29-year-old Donnie Okanee from Thunderchild First Nation, that CRT was searching for. He was charged with resisting arrest, and three counts, fail to comply with release order.
In relation to a July 10 incident on Thunderchild First Nation, he was also charged with assault, and uttering threats.
Tariq Nicotine, 25, from Thunderchild First Nation is charged with resisting arrest and on seven outstanding warrants from Turtleford and North Battleford RCMP.
Logan Jimmy, 27, from Thunderchild First Nation is charged with resisting arrest and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Jimmy was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.
The three accused appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on July 12, 2024.
