The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has arrested and charged another man in relation to the stabbing death of Tjijandjeua Gift Tjaveondja in north central Edmonton on Sunday.
Byron Cardinal, 32, has since been arrested and charged with second degree murder and assault with a weapon. The two men were not known to one another.
Dakota Johnson, 31, was also arrested and charged with second degree murder and assault with a weapon in relation to Tjaveondja’s death. Johnson and Tjaveondja were not known to one another.
At approximately 12:15 a.m. March 17, Northwest Branch patrol officers responded to a stabbing in the area of 118 Avenue and 97 Street. Upon arrival, officers located an injured adult male.
EMS responded, treated and transported Tjijandjeua Gift Tjaveondja, 30, to hospital where he died shortly after.
On March 20, the Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tjaveondja and determined his cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest. The manner of death was homicide.
Investigators continue to believe there were additional people involved in an altercation in the area of 118 Avenue and 101 Street that may have resulted in Tjaveondja’s stabbing death.
