A Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, man was arrested following an investigation by the RCMP Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET).
RCMP raided 33-year-old Mark Alexander Peterson’s home and vehicle on Feb. 13 and seized two prohibited automatic rifles, one prohibited semi-automatic rifle, one prohibited automatic handgun, one restricted handgun, two non-restricted semi-automatic rifles, one non-restricted shotgun, 33 prescribed prohibited magazines, and four bayonets.
Several of the seized firearms were designed for military use and are prohibited due to their capabilities of discharging automatic fire, say police.
Peterson was charged with possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,possession of prohibited weapon, device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized, two counts of weapons trafficking, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition without a license, and unsafe storage of firearms.
Peterson is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Feb. 21.
RCMP say their criminal investigation is ongoing.
