RCMP arrest man.
RCMP in Ontario have charged a person – whom they didn’t identify – with providing safeguarded information about critical infrastructure to a terrorist group.
The charge was laid under the Security of Information Act (SOIA). Toronto RCMP did say that evidence indicates that the person intended to put critical infrastructure at risk. They also said that soon as they became aware of the risk, they removed the person’s access to information.
The RCMP is continuing its investigation and assessing its possible impacts. At this time, they say there are no known risks to the public or infrastructure.
There is a section 517 publication ban in place that prohibits the publication of any information, evidence, or representations made at or in anticipation of a bail hearing. Any bail conditions, reasons of the bail court, and any evidence or materials relied upon at the bail hearing are prohibited from disclosure.
The RCMP encourages citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the National Security Information Network (1-800-420-5805 or RCMP.NSIN-RISN.GRC@rcmp-grc.gc.ca) or to their local police detachment. If there is an immediate threat to your safety, please call 911.
