Calgary Police are investigating the murder of Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides’ sister on Jan. 16, outside an elementary school. The Western Standard has reported that the victim is the Education Minister’s sister.
At approximately 7:40 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, Calgary Police responded to reports of an incident outside an elementary school John Costello Catholic School in Strathcona Park in southwest Calgary. The woman was declared deceased at the scene in what is believed to be a targeted incident.
One elementary school and one preschool were put into lockdown as a precaution and parents of the students have been notified. It is not believed any staff or students were at risk at any time.
Investigators remain on scene to speak with witnesses and to gather additional information. The suspect was located nearby deceased and there is no risk to the public.
It is believed the incident is domestic in nature.
This was a very traumatic event that occurred in a public place.
