A New Brunswick RCMP officer has been injured following a traffic stop in Campbellton, N. B. The officer was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Dec. 11, at approximately 10:05 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle that had been stolen from Listiguj, Quebec, and was headed towards Campbellton. A member of the Campbellton RCMP detachment located the vehicle a short time later on Tingley Crescent, and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver and and only person in the vehicle, a 35-year-old man from Charlo, N.B., initially complied with the officer. When the officer advised the man that he was under arrest, he put the vehicle in drive and attempted to flee the scene. The vehicle collided with the police officer, who was dragged alongside the car until it left the roadway and crashed into a residence.
The 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist will be attending the scene, and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
