PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Man. — On Aug. 28, at approximately 1 a.m., RCMP responded to a disturbance involving a firearm at a residence on the first 100-block of 18th Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie.
Officers learned a male suspect had assaulted someone at the home, then showed another resident that he was carrying a firearm and threatened to shoot him. The suspect then fled, running south down 19th Street Northwest.
Portage la Prairie RCMP called in Police Dog Services and an RCMP RPAS (drone) operator to assist in searching for the suspect. The weapon, a modified air rifle, was found behind a business on Saskatchewan Avenue West. The suspect, however, was not found.
A warrant of arrest has been issued for Shayne Peters, 41, of Winnipeg. He faces 10 charges, including:
- Assault;
- Possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Uttering threats;
- Weapon possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization x6; and
- Failure to comply with a release order condition.
Peters is about 5’8”, with a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes. He is known to frequent Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie and Long Plains First Nation.
