Several people were injured after something was thrown into a bonfire, which caused an explosion. The injuries sustained have been described as minor to significant burns however none are believed to be life threatening.
Smithers RCMP say that shortly after midnight on Jan. 1, they responded to a report of multiple burn victims in the 4500 Block of Henry Rd.
Their initial investigation indicated that 30-40 people were gathered around a bonfire when something was thrown into the fire resulting in an explosion.
All injured required medical attention and were taken to hospital.
Smithers RCMP are seeking witnesses, or people who may have taken pictures or video during the incident.
