Police say the legal names associated with the individuals may not correspond to the names they are known within Canada, or within their countries of origin.
CALGARY, Alta., — Calgary police have released photos of the accused as part of an ongoing effort to advance investigations into an extortion series targeting the South Asian community, with the total number of extortion-related incidents now reaching 49 since the series began in April 2025.
To date, 16 individuals have been charged with 56 offences in connection with the Calgary series, which has also seen 19 shootings tied to the extortion attempts. Police confirmed there have been no reported injuries in Calgary to date.
“Despite laying charges in a number of cases, we want to emphasize that these investigations remain active and ongoing, and additional assistance from the public is critical,” said Supt. Jeff Bell of the CPS Criminal Operations & Intelligence Division.
“We will not stop until everyone involved in these crimes has been identified and held accountable.”
Investigators believe the individuals charged may be known to the community by different names and that the public may have encountered them under different circumstances. They say photos of the individuals are being released with careful review and assessment under Section 13(1)(a) or Section 13(1)(cc) of the Protection of Privacy Act.

Earlier this year, the Organized Crime & Offender Management Section launched two dedicated operations—Operation Orion and Operation Outage—which are ongoing and strategically focus on both investigative and suppression efforts targeting extortion-related violence. Police say these proactive efforts have led to significant success in making arrests, laying charges and reducing the frequency of extortion attempts in Calgary.
In addition to the photos released, investigators are continuing to seek public assistance to locate Germanjeet Singh, who is wanted on warrants in relation to an extortion incident, and to identify suspects in two different extortion events that occurred in Cityscape and Saddle Ridge.
Two additional men charged in March extortion shooting
Earlier this month, police announced charges in relation to a series of extortion shootings that took place in February and March. Last week, two additional men were charged.
On Feb. 22, 2026, at around 2:45 a.m., police were called for reports of a shooting outside of a residence in the 8400 block of Saddleridge Drive N.E. It is believed that two suspects fired multiple rounds into the residence from a vehicle before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.
On March 4, 2026, at around 5:10 a.m., the same residence was once again targeted, and shots were fired toward the residence by three suspects inside a vehicle.
After identifying a possible suspect vehicle during a traffic stop on March 7, 2026, investigators analyzed evidence from the stop alongside information from earlier incidents. This work helped establish links between suspects, vehicles and a series of extortion-related shootings.
On April 3, 2026, police laid charges against one individual while continuing to pursue additional suspects. Last week, investigators arrested a second man in Edmonton and issued warrants for a third.
Karanbir Singh, 21, has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent. He was remanded into custody and appeared in court on April 20, 2026.
Germanjeet Singh, 22, is wanted on a warrant for discharging a firearm with intent. He is described as 5’8″ tall, 198 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.
“These additional charges underscore the strength of our partnerships with our policing partners not only here in the province but also nationally,” said Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Bell, Bureau of Investigative Support, Calgary Police Service. “Through collaborative efforts and shared intelligence, we are sending a clear message that there is no room for extortion or violent criminal activity in our city or anywhere in our province.”
Police thanked their partners at the Edmonton Police Service, the Canada Border Services Agency and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team for their help with the investigation.
