BRAZEAU COUNTY, Alta., — A 33-year-old man is facing nearly two dozen criminal charges following a police operation that uncovered a cache of weapons, prohibited devices, and a 3D printer used to manufacture firearm components at a rural property in Brazeau County.
On June 25, the Drayton Valley RCMP, supported by the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Air Services, executed a search warrant at a residence on Township Road 503. The operation was the result of an ongoing investigation, with police noting they received critical assistance from community members in the area.
During the search, investigators seized a significant arsenal, including four firearms—two of which were identified as prohibited—along with prohibited magazines and a quantity of ammunition. In a development reflecting modern criminal manufacturing methods, officers also discovered a 3D printer and several 3D-printed firearm parts at the scene. Additional stolen property was recovered during the raid.
Kayl Colby McCoy has been arrested and charged with 23 criminal offences. The charges include multiple counts of possession of firearms while prohibited, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of prohibited devices, and possession of stolen property.
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, McCoy was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on July 2.
The Drayton Valley RCMP extended their gratitude to the public for their cooperation during the operation and for heeding officer directions while the high-risk warrant was being executed. They also acknowledged the critical role of specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team and Air Services, in ensuring the safe resolution of the file.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released further details regarding the nature of the stolen property or the specific source of the community tips.
