ONION LAKE, Sask., —Two individuals have been arrested, and one suspect is wanted by Saskatchewan RCMP after a vehicle fled from an attempted traffic stop.
On May 17, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Onion Lake RCMP observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed near Onion Lake. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop. A short time later, the vehicle stopped near French Butte, and two of the vehicle’s occupants fled from it on foot. Two occupants remained in the vehicle and were arrested.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a loaded firearm.
Onion Lake RCMP Detachment engaged the Lloydminster Crime Reduction Team (CRT), part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Teams (SERT), North Battleford Police Dog Services (PDS), and Rosetown RCMP and Kindersley RCMP Combined Traffic Services to assist with locating the outstanding suspects.
A police dog tracked one suspect for approximately five kilometres and he was arrested.
As a result of continued investigation, Matthew Chief, a 40-year-old from Onion Lake, is charged with resist/obstruct peace officer, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, unsafe storage of firearm, possession of firearm in motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, and possession contrary to order.
Timothy Weeseekase, a 35-year-old from Onion Lake, is charged with o possession of firearm.
Matthew Chief appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on May 19, 2026. Timothy Weeseekase is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 15, 2026.
The other vehicle occupant has been released without charge.
Onion Lake RCMP is seeking to locate the other male suspect. The public is asked to report sightings and information on the whereabouts of 44-year-old Aaron Chief from Onion Lake. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Aaron Chief is charged with flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resist/obstruct peace officer, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence/registration, unsafe storage of firearm, possession of firearm in motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, and possession contrary to order.
Aaron Chief is about 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds. He has brown eys and black hair. He has a facial hair and a tattoo on his neck.
