HINTON, Alta., — A highly successful joint forces enforcement initiative was conducted throughout the May long weekend from May 15–18, bringing together multiple law enforcement and public safety agencies with a shared commitment to keeping residents and visitors safe throughout the Hinton region.
The coordinated operation included members from:
- Hinton RCMP;
- Alberta Forestry and Parks;
- Alberta Sheriffs (Traffic and Fish and Wildlife Division);
- CN Police;
- Edson RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU);
- Hinton Peace Officers;
- Yellowhead County Peace Officers.
The collaborative initiative focused on traffic safety, impaired driving enforcement, public education, recreational compliance, commercial vehicle inspections, and proactive patrols during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
Throughout the operation, enforcement teams conducted a total of 652 public contacts, demonstrating a significant police and public safety presence across highways, recreational areas and communities throughout the region.




Enforcement statistics from the operation included:
- 93 violation tickets issued, including:
- 77 speeding violations under the Traffic Safety Act;
- 7 fail to produce offences;
- 3 operate vehicle without registration offences; and
- 6 recreational vehicle enforcement regulation violations.
- 138 warnings issued (verbal and written).
Several noteworthy enforcement and public safety actions also occurred during the initiative, including:
- Completion of 10 Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) demands;
- Detection of a vehicle travelling 102 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone on Highway 16;
- A summons issued to a driver travelling 183 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone on Highway 16;
- Execution of two warrants, resulting in a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation involving Psilocybin and Psilocin (commonly referred to as magic mushrooms);
- Completion of five Level II commercial vehicle inspections; and
- Identification and extinguishing of several unattended fires before they could create larger public safety concerns.
Most importantly, no collisions involving fatalities or severe injuries were reported within the Hinton area during the long weekend period.
“This initiative highlights the tremendous value of strong partnerships between policing agencies, conservation officers, peace officers, and public safety organizations,” said S/Sgt. Mark Hall, Detachment Commander of the Hinton RCMP. “The visible presence and coordinated enforcement efforts by all participating agencies played an important role in promoting safe travel and responsible recreation throughout the long weekend.”
