On April 23, at approximately 11:40 p.m., members of the Strathcona County RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) were conducting traffic patrols when they queried an Alberta licence plate which revealed the vehicle was not registered.
A traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle and officers observed a large quantity of contraband tobacco in the back seat. As a result, both occupants of the vehicle were arrested.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of fentanyl, cocaine and meth consistent with drug trafficking and 50 cartons of contraband cigarettes with a retail value of $8,000.
As a result of the investigation, Gerald St Peter (68), a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance (x2)
- Possession of proceeds of crime under$ 5,000.
- Trafficking illegal tobacco
St. Peter was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released from custody with his next court date scheduled for May 20, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Sherwood Park.
“Proactive policing and targeted crime reduction efforts help keep harmful drugs and illegal activity out of our communities,” says Constable Cheri-Lee Smith, Strathcona County RCMP Public Information Officer. “Through continued enforcement and community-focused policing, we remain committed to keeping Strathcona County safe”
