A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an early morning shooting at a residence in Surrey, police announced Sunday.
Jaskaran Saroye is facing one count of discharging a firearm into a place, knowing or being reckless as to whether someone was present, according to the Surrey Police Service (SPS).
Officers responded to calls of shots fired in the area of 94A Avenue and 127 Street at approximately 2:52 a.m. on April 13, 2026. Police confirmed the residence sustained damage from gunfire, and although the home was occupied at the time, no injuries were reported.
The SPS’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) took over the investigation, identifying a suspect vehicle and obtaining a search warrant. With assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team and other SPS units, officers executed the warrant at a Surrey residence and arrested Saroye.
He has been remanded in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing. His next scheduled court appearance is May 12, 2026.
“This arrest and charge reflect the determined work of our officers to hold those responsible for gun violence accountable,” said Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “Discharging a firearm into an occupied home is an extremely serious offence, and while we are thankful no one was physically harmed, incidents like this are profoundly dangerous and frightening for those affected. Our investigators will continue to pursue all individuals and networks involved in violent criminal activity.”
SPS took the unusual step of releasing Saroye’s photo, stating that disclosure is necessary to assist with ongoing police investigations. Investigators hope the public release will prompt additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with information about Saroye’s activities and potential criminal networks involved in violent extortions.
Anyone with information is asked to contact SPS’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca to remain anonymous.
In September 2025, the Surrey Extortion Reward Fund — valued at $250,000 — was established to offer individuals with key information the ability to collect a reward if charges and convictions are secured.
