WINNIPEG, Man., — An officer‑involved shooting is under investigation after Winnipeg police responded to a domestic call on Morrow Avenue early Friday and fatally shot a man who was reportedly violent and armed when officers entered the home.
On June 19, at approximately 1:28 a.m., East District General Patrol officers responded to a domestic call in progress at a residence on Morrow Avenue near St. Anne’s Road.Initial information indicated that a man was violent, armed with a weapon, and that children were present.
At approximately 1:34 a.m., officers encountered the male inside the residence, where he was armed with a weapon. A use-of-force encounter occurred, and the man was shot by police. One of the responding officers was equipped with a body-worn camera.
Officers immediately provided emergency medical care, including the application of chest seals, until paramedics arrived. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
As this matter is deemed a serious incident pursuant to The Police Services Act, the Civilian Director of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified.
