A 22-year-old man wanted for second-degree murder and attempted murder has been extradited from the United States to face charges in British Columbia, nearly 17 months after a deadly shooting in Surrey.
On April 24, 2026, investigators with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took custody of Aman — also known as Aman Aman or Aman Ramesh — from the U.S. Marshals Service and brought him back to Canada. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11, 2026.
An arrest warrant for Aman was granted on February 9, 2026, to face extradition for the offences. The BC Prosecution Service had approved charges of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder against him on December 1, 2025.
The charges stem from a deadly incident on December 14, 2024. At approximately 3:00 a.m., RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit frontline officers were called to a residence in the 14700 block of 108A Avenue in Surrey.
IHIT worked closely with the Integrated Forensic Identification Service, Surrey Police Service, RCMP SPOSU and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
On April 15, 2025, 21-year-old Gurtaj Singh was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
“Following the approval of the charges, the team at IHIT was unrelenting in their efforts to advance the investigation and locate Mr. Aman,” said Sgt. Freda Fong. “As a result of those efforts, on February 9, 2026, an arrest warrant was granted for Mr. Aman, to face extradition for the offences.”
Fong added: “IHIT investigators are committed to pursuing every viable lead and will go the distance in doing so. This case is an example of our commitment to bringing all those responsible to justice on behalf of the victims, their families, and the community.”
As the matter is now before the courts, police say no further information will be released.
