Calgary Police Service Investigators have connected a shooting that occurred yesterday evening to a vehicle that was located on fire in the city’s southeast.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., we were called to a parking lot located in the 5500 block of Macleod Trail S.W., for reports that one man had been shot. It is believed that the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival in a black Hyundai Kona.
Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, however his condition has since been upgraded to stable.
Approximately 15 minutes later, police located a black Hyundai Kona, bearing a stolen licence plate, on fire in the 1600 block of 17 Street S.E. The Calgary Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fire. At this time, this vehicle is believed to be connected to the shooting and our investigators are now analyzing the vehicle for additional evidence.
This incident was targeted and is believed to be connected to organized crime conflict in Calgary.
“This was a very brazen shooting that happened near a busy roadway when Calgarians were out and about,” said Staff Sergeant Don Campbell of the CPS Organized Crime Unit. “This incident has the hallmarks of organized crime, and as such, we have dedicated numerous police resources to identify the offenders and prevent further retaliatory violence. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Addressing gun violence and organized crime continues to be a priority for Calgary Police Service. Through investigation, prevention and enforcement activities they have co-ordinated their resources to reduce victimization and enhance community safety.
Calgary Police Service efforts to address these issues rely on strong community support. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time of the shooting to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
