LAKE COUNTRY, BC, — An impaired driver has lost their licence for 90 days and had their vehicle impounded after causing a head-on collision in Lake Country on Tuesday evening. The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Glenmore Road and Shanks Road, when a southbound SUV failed to navigate a curve, crossed into the oncoming lane, and collided with a passenger car. Both vehicles sustained major damage and were not drivable.
The driver of the passenger car was not injured in the crash. The SUV driver was transported to hospital by ambulance for assessment, while witnesses at the scene provided immediate assistance and valuable information to police. Both drivers remained at the scene following the collision.
The SUV driver advised witnesses they may be impaired, and those witnesses directed responding officers to the driver. Lake Country RCMP initiated an impaired driving investigation, and the driver provided roadside breath samples that confirmed alcohol impairment. Their driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
“It is disappointing to see this as it is the second head-on collision in just three weeks involving alcohol in our community. Our officers remove hundreds of impaired drivers from the road every year and will continue to actively target this dangerous and reckless behaviour. Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious injury and death on our roads, and it is entirely preventable,” said Staff Sergeant Jon Collins, Lake Country Detachment Commander.
