Lauren Besse and Daniel (Danny) Magowan appeared to have it all. On June 11, 2016, the couple tied the knot in what looked like a picture-perfect wedding. Besse, a social media enthusiast, frequently shared glimpses into their seemingly idyllic life—a fairytale played out on her Facebook feed.
From glamorous evening gowns at lavish parties to casual farm attire during calving season, Besse’s posts told the story of a blissful marriage. In every photo, the couple was smiling, their lives filled with family, travel, and the quiet joys of rural life.
On June 11, 2024, Besse posted, “Celebrating 8 years of marriage with this incredible man! Through life’s highs and lows, we’ve remained unwavering in our love and support for each other. We have tons of fun on our little adventures, as simple as they are. We always come out with one hell of a story! I wouldn’t choose anyone else to share this wild journey with. Here’s to many more years of laughter and love together!”

Magowan didn’t make as many public posts as his wife but the photos he posted mirrored the seeming bliss. On July 9, 2016, he posted, “Pret near a month ago June 11th I was lucky enough to marry my soulmate, best friend, and the love of my life Lauren Besse. I am the luckiest man to have such a loving, gorgeous knockout to grow old with and live my life with. I love you sweetheart.”
In another post he said, “A glimpse of the luckiest man alive, and beside him the reason why.”
But that carefully crafted image of happiness came crashing down in the early hours of Aug. 23, 2024.
Warman RCMP had responded to a report about an injured male at a home in the R. M. of Corman Park around 7 a.m. Danny Magowan, 42, was declared deceased at the scene and his 35-year-old wife was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
According to Magowan’s obituary, he died in the Grandora area, which is 25 kilometres west of Saskatoon. His family had asked that memorial donations in Danny’s honour be directed to Better Together Clothing in North Battleford. They said the donations would go toward Mental Health Awareness and dress citizens in “Tee’s on Tuesday’s” with a focus on Men’s Mental Health. www.bettertogethersk.ca
Besse remains in custody and is scheduled back in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Dec. 12. The reason for her appearance is for her matter to be spoken to.
