Calgary Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a man who is wanted on warrants, including extortion, in connection to an arson in the northwest community of HIllhurst.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at approximately 3:10 a.m., we were called to a home in the 1700 block of Eighth Avenue N.W., for reports of a fire.
Finbar HUGHES, 21, is wanted on several warrants including causing damage by fire to a dwelling, extortion and possession of an incendiary material to commit arson.
It is believed HUGHES is responsible for attempting to burn down a house earlier this month in an attempt to extort bitcoin from victims. The Calgary Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries reported, and the property damage to the affected home was minor. However, the fire was deemed suspicious.
Investigators have exhausted all avenues attempting to locate HUGHES and are now turning to the public for help.
Hughes is described as approximately 6’ tall, weighing 175 pounds, with a medium build, brown hair and blue eyes.
