Obnes Regis has been sentenced to 16 years in prison by a British Columbia Supreme Court judge for killing and dismembering his wife. After credit for pre-trial custody, his global sentence is 12 years, one month and 17 days.

Court heard Naomi Onotera, or AiAi as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephew, was much loved and cherished by the many family and friends who held her dear. Naomi vanished in August 2021, when she was killed at the hands of Obnes Regis, her intimate partner and the father of her child.
After punching Naomi in the head with such force that she fell to the ground, Regis deliberately chose not to call 911 for assistance. He instead left Naomi to die on the bathroom floor of her own home. In the hours following her death, Regis horrifically dismembered and disposed of Naomi’s body, and for months after this gruesome act he cruelly deceived Naomi’s loved ones about her whereabouts.
Naomi was 40 when she was killed. She met Regis in August 2016, and they began a relationship. Naomi was a teacher-librarian in the Surrey School District. In July 2018, she purchased the residence, and was the sole owner on title. In April 2019, Naomi and Regis had a wedding ceremony, but they were never legally married as no marriage certificate was filed. They resided together in the residence. In November 2019, Naomi gave birth to a daughter. Regis is her father.
