Calgary’s eighth homicide victim of 2024 has been identified by police as 16-year-old Dean Visser of Calgary.
A 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in relation to the June 6 stabbing in Calgary. He cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He appears in court on June 10.
“This tragic incident didn’t need to happen. My condolences go out to the victim’s family,” says Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit Staff Sergeant Sean Gregson. “The impact of an incident like this has a ripple effect through the community. I sympathize with family and friends who have been shaken by this tragic loss.”
Calgary Police Homicide Unit say a fatal fight resulted in the teen being killed in the southeast community of Forest Lawn.
At about 7 p.m. on June 6 Calgary Police were called to the 1300 block of 41 Street S.E., for reports of an altercation involving a weapon. When officers arrived, they found a teen suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.
